Description "Up for the Challenge" is a fitness, nutrition and health curriculum for school-aged, middle school and teen youth. It was written for military afterschool programs but is easily adaptable to any afterschool or 4-H club setting. The 290-page curriculum is divided into five chapters with each chapter containing multiple lessons in physical activity, nutrition and healthy decision making. Lessons range in scope and length from 30-60 minute nutrition and/or physical activities to a multi-week wellness event. Each lesson provides expected youth outcomes, instructor essential information, preparation instructions, supplies, lesson time, handouts and opportunities for reflection. |

Description Whether you choose to skateboard, run, hike, swim, jump, bike ride or be active in another way, YOUth in Motion can provide a strong foundation from which to learn about physical activity and healthy eating. YOUth in Motion builds on the success of a two-year, well-researched mentoring program entitled Red in Motion. The overall goal of Red in Motion is to promote lifelong physical activity and healthy eating among school-aged children. This Nebraska 4-H curriculum strives to present a complete physical fitness picture for youth, their peers and their families. Youth will have the opportunity to learn new and fun ways to be active, how to take resting and working heart rates, personal goal setting, stretching and building stronger muscles, and choosing healthy snacks. Information about the MyPyramid is also included. Each lesson is filled with fun, hands-on activities, while building important life skills such as goal setting, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking. Be sure to check out YOUth in Motion’s “companion curriculum”, Fast Foods, which emphasizes teaching youth to prepare wholesome meals at home - FAST! This curriculum is aligned with school standards, making it easy to use in the classroom. |
